Do you consider the South African government to be democratic or authoritarian? Explain your answer

I would say neither. Blacks in South Africa have a much higher standard of living than blacks in any other part of Africa. You figure it out.

I would say the SA government is authoritarian and not a democracy. The reason is that the people do not really vote for a candidate. The party is voted for and the party elects the candidate. If he's a poor ruler, they're in it for the long haul, like with Mbeki. The authoritarian system has always been the way that country was ruled, even by the whites. What's different?

Now more democratic. It used to be a horribly racist authoritarian regime that the US gladly supported.
