If the human race lives for a million years only one name from this era will endure and it won't be Christ or Gandhi or Robbie Bloody Williams. No, the greatest human of our history so far is the one in whom our hopes for the future are symbolised - Neil Armstrong.

the greatest good has been done to the greatest number by the work of engineers. they have given us clean water which keeps us healthy, comfortable houses which make our lives happy and secure, roads which put us in touch with our fellow citizens.
the person who more than any reminded people that engineering was a sacred calling, and that there was even something glorious in being the best at it was archimedes.

No the Greatest - but ranks amongst them: Highly so
Elizabeth the first of England:
Branded the bastard daughter of Anne Boylene -
Rejected by her father as a 'near enough' - and if he believed one half of the accusations of his lawyers - a hell spawned whelp.
Near sent to the block by her own half sister.
Abused by a step- step father
Never finding any man that would truly love her as a women, rather than a prize.
Oh yes made errors
Yet- and I will not stand as this womans defence council- you judge ---- yet, given her position and her position in time-- look at what she did for her ordinary people and her realm.
judge her in her own time - she did well - Id challenge any man to do the same in the exact situation--and I am a man........ I would have loved to meet her... but it would involve riskin my head :)

Marco Polo - for his great fortitude and arduous dangerous travels, and for returning alive after all those adventures and bringing back PASTA TO ITALY. jUST THINK OF THAT,
Italy is the only European country that has had spaghetti, and all those other pasta dishes, originally from China.
Then I also think of Winston Churchill, who kept his head and lead. He was a great man.
