i'd say only get a mac if there is software available for the mac that you are definitely interested in using. I got a mac and it's unbelievable the amount of software that doesn't provide mac support. i miss windows to be honest.

Vaio's are pretty cool, but I look at Macs from the standpoint of running Apple's OS, not Windows. I've had much more success on a Mac, and always laughing at the fact of not viruses, but the nagware and crapware that is preloaded on PC's. Macs are made to look simple. The OS they run on (Mac OS X) is simple to look at but can be very powerful.
Some things to consider:
If you are a hardcore gamer- don't get a Mac

If you like putting together videos and listening to music and browsing the web at the same time- GET a Mac.

If you don't like paying for the version of Windows that "fits you best" for a ridiculous price- Get a Mac. Macs only have one version that does it all basically for $130.

I switched from a PC to Mac in December and it took a week or so to fully get the hang of it, but I love it now.

Plus you can run Windows on them.

Mac's are more sound in every way, they'll crash less and are more virus-resistant. Yes, you'll have to learn how to use them, but it's not /that/ hard and you'll be glad you did. The preloaded software for mac, such as sound and video editing, is much better, which is fun. Unless you've already purchased software for Windows that you're going to want to install, go with the Macs. They are the computers of the future and you'll be glad you learned to use them.

You can have the best of both worlds.
Macbook Pro Core-2 Duo and run both Windows XP or Vista, and Mac OSX
