Without the Boston Massacre we would still be part of the English Colonies. That event was one of the causes of the Revolutionary War.

Good question. It isn't really that important. It was one a many inciting factors that led to the Revolutionary War five years later. But it compares to the "SPIN" you can get from the media today - and that was back in 1770. Only five men were killed, but the newspapers called it a "massacre."
A mob of a few hundred colonists surrounded seven British soldiers hurling insults, ice and snowballs at them and daring them to shoot. Crispus Attucks, a 47 year old mulatto man said to be large and powerfully built, actually struck one soldier, Hugh Montgomery, with a club and knocked him to the ground. That was the last straw for the frightened soldiers. They fired just one volley and got the heck out of that mob. Attucks was hit with two musket balls and died right away. Two others died on the spot, one with a large head wound from point blank range, and two more died within the next 24 hours.
As a catastrophe it was rather small, but the news media made a big deal out of it. The soldiers were tried and acquitted - having been goaded to fire (though two had their hands branded as punishment). The defense lawyer for the soldiers was John Adams who would be 2nd president of the United States.

It shows us that we should not back down in the face of opression.
It wasn't a massacre per-se as the squad of British soldiers were defending themselves from a dangerous and unruly mob. It was pretty much hyped up by frustrated and hysterical citizens at the time it occurrred, but it served as an early example among many of the unjustified British strong arm tactics that lead to the Revolutionary War.

It was a propaganda victory for the Sons of Liberty. They milked it for all it was worth and convinced a lot of colonists to back their cause.
