Well, they did emphasize it was a 'worst case' possibility, not a direct threat. Nonetheless, given French resistance to openly oppose Middle Eastern regimes, it is telling that they would be so blunt. I would probably take them at their word - they don't *want* to go to war with Iran, but are willing to do so if they feel it necessary.
Iran most likely does not yet have a working nuke, but they are undeniably working on it. Unlike some other nations, Iran already has missiles capable of delivering nukes some distance - including much of Europe. Iran is also known to have an extensive chemical weapon capacity, fortunately limited to short range tactical use.
In some regards, we are already in WWIII - think of the situation in Iraq not as Vietnam but more akin to the Spanish Civil War and you'll get a better idea of where we are. And while nukes will almost certainly be involved at some point, the bulk of fighting will be plain old shooting and blowing things up. It sucks, but that's humans for you...

I wouldn't worry about France and Iran, Russia is more likely to trigger a nuclear war especially as Putin has been building up their armies and revamping the old communist launchers.
America has been rubbing Putin up the wrong way and he's been pushing it flying over N.A.T.O. countries with bombers capable of a nuclear payload.
But we have been at danger of a Nuclear war for about the last 40 years the agenda would be M.A.D. , mutually assured destruction. As long as there are no Dr Strangelove's we should be OK as it would be a no win situation.
Don't worry too much

I have never seen or read of France threatening to go to war with anyone. All they said was that France should be prepared to go to war with Iran. Not quite the same. Right. You should be worried about Russia sending bombers into British air space. That a dangerous game that Mr Putin is playing as one day, God forbid, that the Brits will shoot down one of these bombers Looks to me like the cold war has started again and that could bring us on the brink. Iran are just small fry.

I sure hope France does not go to war with Iran, I mean their own government caved in when a bunch of college kids and people in their 30's began riots over allowing employers to fire non-productive workers. I mean the government can't even stand by it's own laws. So, how in the world are they going to be able to go to war with and win against an enemy that is 10 times more violent and hatful that the people of France? If they do go to war with Iran we will have to get involved in some way. Then the British will have to get involved on our side and that of Frances side. Then other Middle Eastern countries will have to get involved on Iran’s side like Lebanon, and Syria, and possibly a few others. Then Israel will get into it on our side. So it could turn into a real mess. I mean Iran is not as backwards as Iraq was, with Hussein in charge. Iran is full of extremist Muslims and they will use any and all weapons and tactics they have at their disposal. If they go to war with Iran I hope they will do so aggressively and do so in a true fashion of what war is. Yes war is ugly, yes civilians get killed, yes cities are leveled and whole areas destroyed. You try to kill as many of the bad guys as possible without getting your own men killed. War is a ruthless and ugly business. There is no place for politicians and diplomats on the battle field. You need strong hard tough general who will not worry about what some jackass is saying in your government about the way you are conducting the war. The best way to win one is sheer force, and total death or surrender of your enemy. In other words you fight and keep on fighting until your enemy is will to an unconditional surrender. Then once they do, then is when you work on rebuilding the infrastructure and nation, you don't do it a little at a time as you go along. That is why we have so many problems in Iraq. We are trying to do like 5 things at once. That will never win a war. You have to win outright, then help the civilians rebuild and form a government. Until you win the nation needs to be under military rule and governance. If they do go to war, it could be interesting. It would also show the rest of the world that the France do have a backbone and are willing to take it to the next level in order to protect the French people. Let's face it something has to be done with Iran, many Iranians I have met are nice and good people, who do not even like their government. So France could have a lot of inside help when it comes to it if they go about it the right way. Will be interesting to see if they do and how much we the U.S. gets involved.

First of all I seriously doubt France will go to war with Iran.
Second, France would crush Iran into the ground.

Are you sure about this? I don't think France would ever have the guts to fight for anything or anybody. Remember it was the Americans who have saved their butts in the past.
