growing up, i knew my dad loved me, but he just didnt know how to show it. i think he stopped hugging me when i was about 4... I used to hug him goodnight every night, but after a while I figured out that he wasnt reciprocating the hug, so I stopped. Like I said, I know my dad loves me from the bottom of his heart, he just has trouble showing it. so in school, my best friend would be very huggy with everyone, and I would just stand there. Like when we said goodbye to friends at the end of the day, she would always hug them and I thought it was awkward, so I would just say bye. But, slowly, I have learned to open up and become more affectionate towards my friends...I also remember how awkward it was to kiss my boyfriend in the beginning, and I dont mean "first time jitters awkward," i mean, it truly felt awkward for me. But I also have gotten over that =]. It is just something that takes time, but at least you know what you want to accomplish. It will happen, just slowly start opening up to people. =]

i have a friend like that and i just go ahead and hug him. he turns away and i end up getting a chin in the face or something lol. so then i try to make a joke about it, and then i feel stupid cause i go on too long, then i get really embarassed lolol.
try hugging someone safe like family or a close friend. or when its a friends birthday or they are sad. just take the plunge, feel confident dont worry about outcomes

Just do it. You don't need practice, it comes natural. With practice, all things begin to feel normal. I'm glad you're reaching out. ((( warm hug to you )))
