I think there should be. I believe there should be a law that if your BMI reaches a certain level, you should be arrested and taken to jail where you'll be put on a diet. It would end the obesity problem in the country very quickly. What do you think?

The problem with that is BMI is a flawed way to measure health. It has been since the very beginning and the scientists that began using it knew it was flawed. It only works in relation to large groups of people to find an average. Not for individuals to find if they are healthy or not.

Muscle weighs more than fat. Someone who is extremely muscular will be considered overweight based on their BMI even if that have next to no body fat. (I pasted a link that explains how the BMI is flawed).

That aside, no, there should not be a law against being fat. If we decided to do that, what's next? A law against being short? Or a law against wearing red shirts? That's too much governmental control.

No.
It's not every fat person's fault they're fat.
It does have more to do with genetics than exercise and diet.

Proof - When I was in the military I exercised and ate right and yes I was within the weight standards but I still a gut that just never goes away.

My older bro never really works out. eats nothing but fast food and junk and he's in perfect shape ripped up muscles.

Nobody chooses to be fat yes some people let themselves go but nobody wakes up and says hmmm I wanna be fat today. It's hard to keep the weight off especial like me when I have to do so much more than the next guy that gets to do less and eat more. It's not easy.

Bugger off, it is nosy buttinskis like you that think they know it all that make life miserable for others. What if we set an intelligence level, that was one point above yours and sent you to a mental hospital? How would you feel about your fat proposal then? What if we set height limits that meant you were too short or too tall to live in the city you were in, so we put you on a bus to somewhere? What if we set a minimum beauty limit, and decided you weren't good enough looking to stay? What if we decided your clothes didn't meet standards for good taste, would you like us to stick you on an island with others who do not know how to dress?
Do you support tossing people who are the wrong colour, the wrong religion, or the wrong age into work camps so you don't have to look at them or listen to them?
Discrimination is discrimination, no matter what you use as the basis.

What a stupid thing to say. People can be fat if they want to be. What they really should do is arrest ignorant people and put them in jail and make them read and study and they can't get out until they have reached a high school level of education. No Child Left Behind.

Let's be fair. You know they too have problems of their own. They don't like to be obese for sure. But they cannot control their appetite. Despite of the threat of having heart attack, they still keep on eating what they wanted to eat. If there's a law prohibiting those people to become obese on certain level, we are creating another problem for the government. I appreciate your concern for obese people. If your idea will work, it is a violation of human rights, the right to eat. lol

I've often thought a similar law should be put into place for intelligent quotients - as in if your questions indicate an exceptionally low intelligence level, you should be taken to jail where you'll be forced to study. It would certainly end the stupidity problem in the country very quickly!

o.k then if you think that then,, Which btw.. My BMI is 2 pts higher than it should be. I ate a salad/ fruit for dinner, and drank 8 glasses of water, walked for 30 minutes, treadmill for 30 this a.m. and lifted several sets of 5 lbs weights. This a.m. I had wheat toast, and eggs, w/ a sandwich for lunch. I wake up every singe day of my life thinking how wonderful it would be to not have to fight every day of my life to be thin. Or,, not have to read every single item I put in my grocery cart, and to be able to savor that bite of chocolate cake, and not beat myself up over it.
My sister/// eats like a pig, and can't gain weight!
Go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I think if being fat should be against the law.. then having High bloodpressure (which I dont') , Smoking, which causes cancer... Being stupid... which you are.. and I am not! O ,and it should be against the law to be unemployed ..not fair,, that we work our butt off.. and you get to be stupid.

No, there are too many laws interfering with peoples lives now, we don't need any more! There are varied reasons for a person being over weight & not all are because of over indulgence. Don't be so quick to judge everyone by what you think is their problem.

I'm over weight and I agree.

I also think if you are caught driving drunk they cut your feet off. if you are caught with drugs they remove a lung, if you are caught again, well you get it. If you hit your wife you should have your arm removed to the elbow. If you are caught stealing they remove one eye. If you are caught speeding they drag you a block on the pavement. If you run a red light they hit you across the back with a ball bat two times. If they catch you cheating on your spouse or girl friend they shave your head, pierce your nose and tattoo your forehead.

This way we get most everyone for something.
