Free will or destiny, it can all seem very confusing. There is both, sort of. The problem is understanding exactly what each is. There are hard lines & probabilities, things that are "destined" to happen IF the course you are on does not change. Nothing is ever cast in stone. Then there is free will, often misunderstood. We have the power of choice in action, & every choice you make changes what is destined to happen here. As far as ultimate Truth is concerned, free will only means we are free to accept or ignore Truth, but that in no way implies we can decide what is Truth. That is something that reaches far beyond us. On a personal level, I am coming up on 52, & my experience has been that everytime I err or fall down, if I do not look at it & learn all I can then I am doomed to History repeating itself. Yet, I have done a lot of "soul searching" & have changed much so I don't have to repeat the errors of the past. This too could happen on a global level, but it can only be done by individually. If every single person lived an examined life, sought personal peace, there would be world peace. Sadly power corrupts, world leaders do not have to go to the front lines of war themselves, their actions many times do not have direct impact on themselves, & they often have a hidden agenda. In a very concrete way, we create the cycles we claim we fall victim to. This is a place of karma, cause & effect. These "cycles" keep repeating because we keep doing the same things over & over again trying to get different results.

We tend to think that history repeats itself only because we've become so adept at making correlations between anything and everything. If you see an event and go back 10 years you might find similar circumstances with a different result. If you instead go back 20 years and again find similar circumstances and this time a similar result, you would conclude that indeed history repeats itself.

Your second question, do we have the ability to alter our own fates? Free will to me can be visualized as an independent choice (either YES or NO) hidden in a box with the lid on. This choice most definitely exists and it's what makes each of us, well...US. The temptation is to peek under the lid and see if it's a YES or if it's a NO. But to take a peek would also taint the choice, causing an original YES answer to split into either YES or NO and causing an original NO answer to split into either YES or NO. Resist the temptation to peek. If you peek it only means you were meant to.

Yes, history repeats itself. Many things which impact history may change like technology, how we percieve art, our understanding of medicine, knowledge of the universe but our base history, how we treat each other hasn't progressed very far. Our base history is unfortunately impaired by our current system of politics and economy. We now have a clear understanding of what causes global warming but there is still too much money to be made in fossil fuels so we will continue to exploit it until there it is no longer profitable to do so and then someone will introduce an alternative fuel source which I believe has been around for decades. Profits will also drive this new source of power but at least we won't have to breath carbon monoxide.

Yes, history may repeat itself in terms of events, but not as exactly as how it happened before. There would be slight things of difference since people could have learned more and could have come up with inventions more advance than those of the past. We may have acquired new techniques for our survival, and may have gone far with our knowledge. Yet, long forgotten accounts are likely to happen over and over again as we keep on ignoring possible recurrence of catastrophic events from our book of history through our plunging faith and sensibility.

As people who proudly perceive that future things could be contained and controlled by ourselves 'alone'. We do not consider being tossed and lost in the coming future. Unless we surrender this pride to The One Who is in Control of the past, the present and the future, we'd be caught unprepared as history repeats itself.

Actually, history repeats itself because life in this world is a cycle. All the actions made by man are subjected to it for our actions have limits. All men are not outright gifted with superpowers not to happen things in the past. Past are part of the time and it will indeed pass but the happening of the event will soon be repeated. Nature in itself could not be broken for it is inherit in itself. The free will of man our controlled by Nature and no one is above it.

History does repeat ifself I think. Especially when we don't learn our lessons. We end up getting stuck in the sames situations. We just have to figure out a solution to ending the events in our lives that keep repeating themselves. The key is understanding why they do. Only then can we solve the riddle.

Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. Some people will tell you that the circumstances are never the same, and to some extent that is true. However, people do not change that fast, and greed is still with us.

It has been 78 years since the depression of 1929. Circumstances are different now, but not that different. We will see what happens.

History repeats itself because people are morons who don't know their history. In other words, they keep making the same mistakes because they refuse to learn from the past. Hypothetically, if people were actually smart, they could learn from the mistakes of the past and stop making those same mistakes.

Hi Rena,I do believe that history repeats itself.Especially with wars.I believe that i can stop the inner cycle within myself.I cannot speak for the rest of humanity. But i have put positive exercises into play.to hopefully walk with a clear conscious. To leave the past in the past. And to get on with my life.

when we say history repeats itself that mean that the same things that happened in the past are happening another time and that's wrong because the things cant happened another time.i mean Cleopatra isn't gonna live another time.she's dead.but what repeat itself is the idea.i mean like we will always hear about killing or love or hurricane.but about if we can stop it or no,i would say sometimes we can and sometimes we cant.i think because we are forced to take that or this decision, but sometimes we cant because saying that we should change is something and the fact that we change is another thing.
