Ive done this a few times. You should try mothers mag and alum cleaner. This will remove the stain and not harm the exhaust pipe. This cleaner contains no grit that will harm the pipe. This will allso turn any chrome part into a glass like finish.Best of luck.

Oven cleaner may work, if not use paint remover ( assuming chrome pipes). Once the chemical starts doing it's job use the edge of a credit card or some other ( Non abrasive) edge to scrape off burned material.
You'll probably have to repeat this a couple times, but the more you can get off with the chemical, the less likely you'll be to scratch your pipes.
Follow up with a light chrome polish using caution as even chrome polish has abrasives in it.
*** DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL or SCOTCH BRITE PADS,*** these are just like sand paper and will destroy your chrome.

Paint remover will soften the melted rubber, then use a thumb nail or a guitar pick to rub it off. Repeat this a few times until you can use a rag. Then follow up with a light chrome polish. Never use steel wool ,even 0000 unless you want scratches.

I tried everything. The only thing that worked was oven cleaner. (Easy off or similar) Took a two or three applications but the rubber came off easily.
PUT ON WHEN PIPES ARE COLD!! DO NOT HEAT PIPES UP.

go down to your local truck shop (the one that fixes 18 Wheelers) ask the for the stuff that they clean the rims with it is about 30$ a bottle but a little goes a long way, if that doesn't work carb cleaner will help but you have to polish it alot afterward to get the smears off of the pipe

One of those green plastic scouring pads works very well. It won't scratch the chrome like steel wool. Be sure pipe is cool to touch. Follow up with chrome polish to complete the job.

Steel wool is a great product for cleaning chrome. The Steel wool will not scratch and will remove road grit and hard to get grim. Try it with water and a light touch.

I used gumout carburetor cleaner -- the spray stuff, not the gas additive. Be VERY careful not to get this stuff on any plastic or rubber or painted surface!

I use a road tar and bug removing gel from pep boys. All I can tell you is it's blue and it won't strip your paint like some of these other suggestions.
