You write it like 384,099. Now the number is Three Hundred Eighty-Four Thousand, Ninety-nine. (You don't want to use "ands" because that gets into decimals) Now, you have things called place values. We'll start by going from the first nine to the 3 on the end. Your first 9 is called the ones place. The second nine is the tens place. The 0 is the hundreds place. The 4 is the thousands place. The 8 is the ten thousands place. The 3 is the hundred thousands place. Now your number is Three Hundred Eighty-Four Thousand, Ninety-nine. In the first three (everything behind the first comma) you have the number three hundred and also the number eighty-four. Combine them together. 384. Now you have Ninety-nine. Well, every time you separate numbers with the comma, there has to be three numbers there already. So (just using some variables, which are letters so you can see easier) NNN , NNN. See? So this means you would have to have a 0 in there because you cant just have 99. Your answer would come out to 384,099. Think of the commas as when your going to say something. So 384 COMMA (which means thousand because it comes right after the thousands place) and you say 99. Hope I helped :) - Jackie
