I have an IBM ThinkPad A21m, Type 2628. It's not new; it's been in my house for four years, I just got it two years ago. Anyway, it's been very sporadic in turning on for the past seven months. I press the power button, and get nothing except the battery indicator lighting up for a second. I've tried to see if it will run on just the battery, and nothing will happen. It's a giant paperweight. Does anyone know what's wrong, and if this can be fixed? I really can't afford to get a new laptop at the moment.

Remove the battery. It is dead and could have an internal short circuit. Try running laptop on the adapter w/out the battery. If it still won't work, motherboard could be dead.

I saw you said that you just run on battery and it does not work.

Ok, Try taking out the battery and plug in the AC. it should turn on. If not, something must be loose on the Motherboard or the Motherboard is burned out.
