I have this system

1.5GHZ VIA Integrated Processor
512MB DDR2 533MHZ RAM
GeForce 4 MX4000 PCI (all i have) 128MB

i dont want to have to buy a whole new computer so i was thinkin of just upgradin to a Geforce FX5500 256MB PCI
so i could play games on whatever settings i can like:

Doom 3
NFS Most Wanted
Battlefield 1942
Battlefield Vietnam

PLZ dont just tell me to get a new comp, i wanna know if i should just do this small upgrade to at least play those games.

this computer is from '06 it just was one of those trick comps that has really old hardware. but apparently having 1 GB ram helps these computers a lot.

The simplest way to find out what specs a game requires is to read the box the game came in.

Somewhere on the box it will tell you the minimum requirements and suggested requirements.

If you don't have the original box, all games come with "read-me" files. These are text files that give you the info that was not included in any game manuals included with some good games as well as the minimum and suggested requirements, just like on the box. Many have useful tips for game play as well.

Read 'em, and enjoy the game. I don't think you'll need to upgrade too much unless you have a top-notch game that requires a lot of computer resources.

Well useing a video card with its own memory surely saves the computer from useing its own ram. But in this case your adding a video card with 128megs more ram. It may just be cheaper to add another stick of 512 ddr2 memory or higher.

That is a very small upgrade, you will notice a slight improvement, but nothing major. You will probably still be playing all of the those games on low to medium settings.

You are definitely going to need some more DDR Ram in that computer in addition to your new video card.
