A Helmet will protect you in the event of a crash. Arai, a popular helmet company uses pictures of one of their helmets a guy sent them to advertise their product, according to his story, he took out a sign and the end of a guardrail with his head at 140 mph (reckless to begin with). he lived. several broken bones, but he lived, his head unharmed.

Because some states fought the law successfully and others didn't. But so many people are getting killed on bikes lately that the fight to ride helmet-less is back.
Personally I think everyone should wear a helmet. I'm alive today because I always wear one. But to each his own.
Where on 77 South did you see this guy? What state?

If you can afford to own a motorcycle that means you have a full time job, ur a valuable member of society that keeps the economy going and you pay taxes.
The state wants to look out and protect people like you, if u wreck ur bike and ur dead, the state loses tax money and a productive member of society.
Thats why the state wants you to wear a helmet.
I think its acceptable the state could re-write the laws that welfare people and drug dealers can ride motorcycles without helmets

Some states have helmet laws, some don't. A helmet isn't going to do much for that guy going at least 100 mph down 77 south if he loses it.

if he was going at least 100 and no helmet, i do not think the helmet law was one of his concerns.if you are learning to ride, wear the helmet. if you have a few thousand miles under your belt and you feel safe without one, so be it. but if you wind up in the ER, at least carry enough insurance so my tax money doesn't keep you on the breathing machines for years.
i live in a state that does not require helmets and ride with and without depending on how i feel that day and where i am going to ride. be safe

Because in some states the majority of people still want to live free and make their own choices in life and not have a government micromanaging their lives. I thought this was why we fought the cold war, but it turns out it was really about the business elite vs the political elite.

Some states are still free states, (getting scammed out of their tax dollars, but none the less remain free). The other states succumb to extortion, give away their freedom in exchange for the return of their tax dollars.
That is the people of every state pay taxes that the federal government collects. Then the federal government says that if you want to use your tax dollars to expand and repair your highways you must meet certain eligibility criteria to qualify. Typically this will include the posting of the federal maximum 65 MPH speed limit sign in your state, the mandatory wearing of an approved helmet, and prohibiting 18-20 year old adults from consuming alcoholic beverages. If your state says no, then the people are free to do whatever they please... on dirt roads. :-(

Some places still allow Darwinism to run its course. You're stupid if you don't ride with a helmet, but I still don't think people should be forced to protect themselves BY LAW.
If you choose not to wear one, don't whine when you crash & die. It's not the weather's fault, and loud pipes won't help a cracked skull (nor will they prevent it).
It's up to the RIDER to protect themselves, both before and during a crash.

Actually, the truth is, in MANY states, it's based on your insurance. If you have at least $10,000 medical on your insurance and you're over 21, then you don't have to wear a helmet.
However, if one of BOTH of these are not applicable, then you are required to wear a helmet. However, most people believe that the only requirement is to be over 21. Incorrect.

Laws vary from state to state.
That's going to change.
The dambgovmint has enacted a highway
safety bill that will withhold Fed. $ from
states without helmet laws.
Another nail in the coffin of freedom/responsibility.
