The effect is opposite for the N. and S. Hemispheres. As the amount of daylight in the northern hemisphere is decreasing, it is increasing over the S. hemisphere. At the Solstice, this will reverse.

NO it comes later and leaves earlier, shorter days! The side of the equator determines North or South hemisphere. Southern is generally Hot Northern is cool.
