"It's the Soldier, not the reporter,

who has given us freedom of the press.

It's the Soldier, not the poet,

who has given us freedom of speech.

It's the Soldier, not the campus organizer,

who has given us freedom to demonstrate.

It's the Soldier, not the lawyer,

who has given us the right to a fair trail.

And it's the Soldier who salutes the flag,

who serves under the flag,

whose coffin is draped by the flag,

that allows the protester to burn the flag"

A couple days ago I used that same quote to illustrate to a Liberal how wrong they were about our military.

These wise words were spoken by Zell Miller at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

Instead of some silly moment of silence on Veteran's Day, we should encourage people everywhere to repeat these words as a reminder that our freedom has come at a price, and that price has been heriocally paid by America's soldiers.

What we forget, is that our soldiers have the unenviable task of having to keep order in lawless countries where they are at a huge disadvantage. They can't easily defend themselves because they are not at war. They are peace keepers. Our military is like the Superman comic strip, defending the weak and defenseless. Liberals just can't stand the fact that the U.S. strives to do good. They only want to put a dark, negative spin on anything. If we rescued an entire city from a sinking island, the Liberals would denounce us for forcibly relocating them!

That’s a very limited view of the many freedoms that we enjoy. Soldiers fight for their countries, even if those countries are Nazi Germany or a brutal military dictatorship or the Soviet Union or a unjust monarchy.

The basic foundations of freedom are found in the laws, the Constitution and the vigilant guarding of those freedoms by its citizens, whether they are legislators, reporters, teachers or any ordinary citizen in any profession. Also, remember that throughout our history, soldiers have been of many different professions. Citizen soldiers have fought and died in several wars and being a soldier and having a profession are not mutually exclusive.

Since I served on active duty (USAF) from 1960 -1973,
I agree 100% with your question/statement. I was there
during the Berlin crisis, the Cuban crisis, Grenada, Panama,
and Viet Nam. WE worked 12 and 16 hour shifts for days,
sometimes weeks on end for a salery that qualified us for food stamps - which no one I know ever applied for. It
made me proud to be serving my country with some of the
finest men I have met in my 65 years. We did not care what
loonie games and ideas civilians were playing with, it was
our job to make sure they had the freedom to do it. We were
happy to do it! And when one of "ours" "bought the farm",
we sent him on his or her way with maximum ceremony and
dignity. I still shed a tear for some of the "Great Ones" I
served with. All America should do the same.

Historically, I'll have to concur. The Revolutionary War was based on establishing individualism and liberty from the tyrannical Great Britian. All of these conceptualized freedoms were capable of materializing due to the dedicated soldier.

Nicely stated.

If you wrote that It is worthy of publishing.

It states exactly what has been forgotten about the Military.

Thank you.

ADD: Please ignore these Sorry leftist who have been taught revisionist history of the United States. They don't get that the US was built in a forge fire and in turmoil from its begining. It is a 231 year old experiment that the people could govern themselves and be responsible for themselves like never before in History. The Military stands on the front line of every injustice this country has faced and is responsible for their right to say the stupid things they do.

Please keep up your writings, True Patriots and Military members apprecitae it. Remember we have overcome much more than these socialist, Who want the government to provide everything for them, can dish out and we will prevail again.

well if none of those people should do those things, it makes you wonder why the soldier was fighting for all of that

and most protestors don't burn flags. I wish they didn't.

The constitution gives us those things. The Soldier under the direction of the commander in chief protects those things. The commander in chief is beholden to the supreme court and the US congress. Oh wait, not this commander in chief.

By reading a lot of the answers on here, it's no wonder people come to the conclusion that most liberals hate the troops.

Great poem though.

Great poem. The poem basically implies that without our soldiers fighting for our freedoms our freedoms wouldn't exist. Thanks for sharing. A star for you!!

Edit: Some people don't understand that we fought for those freedoms. The Revolutionary War gave us freedom from Tyranny of the British. After the war we established a full Democracy. The same with the Civil war. Soldiers fought in the Civil War to abolish slavery. I don't know your intentions behind that poem but that's my reasoning behind my answer.
