Maybe it's so you have a place to retrieve your car the day after...With so many choices of designated driver, taxi or the newest choice, the whole " guy on a scooter" coming to get you at your favorite watering hole and driving you back home in your own car!! The saying isn't Don't Drink...it's Don't Drink and DRIVE!!! I have a very serious problem with people who drink to excess and are absolutely sure that they are capable of driving. A good friend of mine lost her 12 year old son to a drunk driver, on Christmas Eve, about 15 years ago. The driver had come from an office party and was driving the WRONG WAY on the highway. Not only was her son killed, but so was another passenger, an exchange student. And one of her daughters was seriously injured. Now she has to relive that every Christmas holiday. The worst thing about this incident was that the drunk driver had several other DUI arrests previous to this horrible accident. So, although I think your question was intended to be funny, I just wanted to let you know that there are ways to enjoy a night out, and yes a drink or two!! The safest place for your car after you've had a few is IN that bar parking lot. And the safest place for you, is in the care and car of a designated driver. I'm not against anyone having a good time, I just want you to be safe as well as other non-drinking drivers that are on the road. Thanks so much for the thought provoking question.

So that people that SHOULD be driving have a place for their car. This happens when some people do not go to the bar to get smashed up on booze and do something stupid like get drunk and drive.
or go to the bar and drink but sober up before driving, like hours in advance.

Because you have to go to the bar to get your drink. But you should never drive if you're drunk.
