Just wondering . I do think he he helped the yankees a lot ,he was a good guy never had problems good family fan , good baseball players. Many Yankee fans back then dint like i was watching the Movie 61 and they booded him when he hit a hr in yankee stadium, but when Mickey came to bat they gave him an ovation not saying nothing bad about Mickey love the guy, but all the crap Roger had to take it made me cry .Well i do think he is a true yankee

I think in his heart he loved being a Yankee. Maris always said that he greatest joy and honor was just to be a major league baseball player but being a Yankee was just icing on the cake. He was quiet and modest and perhaps New York wasn't the best environment for him but he loved his teammates and they loved him.

People don't realize what an outstanding ball player Roger Maris was. A great defensive right fielder with one of the greatest throwing arms of anyone of his era with the possible exception of Roberto Clemente.

Many said, including Maris himself, that perhaps the worse thing that ever happened to him during his career was breaking Babe Ruth's record. A two time MVP he still was able to prove his worth the the game. Yes, Roger Maris in my mind was a TRUE YANKEE.

I think he is. He broke the record and to this day is the only one who is not suspected to have used steroids to break 60 hrs. I'm not saying the others did but some people do suspect them of taking hgh and other body building supplements. But Roger also went through a lot and he helped the Yankees to a World Series win and I consider him a true Yankee because he did that and he got the ring. He was overshadowed at the time by two great Yankees Mantle and Berra and I think that took away from his stardom but he still was a true Yankee.

I think he was a true Yankee in every way, they took the * off his record many years ago and they should put it next to Bonds now. But I think Maris was a great guy and he was a great asset to the team, he was true class I am glad they retired his number and he is respected by all the Yankee fans I know.

Well, after having watched 61* (about 10 times!), I think I would root for Maris. The main reason being that everyone else wanted Mantle, and he was getting plenty of love (the same reason that little girl gave in the movie =P). It was really a shame that Maris was not able to enjoy his career reason like he should have. If I had been alive back then, I have no idea who I would've picked, but I probably would have still gone with Maris, simply because I'm a non-conformist, and I like to go against the grain. But I would not have rooted against anyone.

He was one of the Yankee greats who - with Mantle - could arguably be called the first modern game Bash Brothers. In a strange way, the success of Maris made Mantle into a fan favorite, as The Mick was not revered by all during his career with the club. The treatement by the media and fans of Maris had as much to do with him chasing Ruth as it was being in the chase with Mantle.

Yes, he is. The Yankees and the Yankee fans were lucky to have him.
