"Good Morning, Vietnam" was made in the 80's. "We Were Soldiers" was made only this decade. Either you came up with the wrong decade or must come up with additional details to the question to make it more definite.
If made in the 80's, add "The Killing Fields" in the list of possible titles.
How about "Wag The Dog"?
Wait a minute...Robert Redford was a reporter in "Up Close and Personal"..but I can't recall if he covered a war or something.

We Were Soldiers. Barry Pepper plays the reporter, Mel Gibson has the starring role. An excellent movie!
