Lolitta is right. Carharts is the only way to go. I live in Upper Michigan and I swear by the brand for outside work.

I particularly admire pea coats, but you night consider a big parka. You should also layer with fleece. Not only is it soft on your skin, but it's very warm, too.

I love fleece jackets, just because they are lightweight and warm for their size. Goretex is overrated...don't waste your money.
