In my pond, i have lilly pads that produce a flower about once every other day. What do I do with the flower after it closes and dies? The stem is still very sturdy, Do I cut it off or leave it? Also, for the leaves, how do I remove the the floating leaves that are looking beat up?? Cutting the stem from the bottom of the pond?? THANKS!

Experiement on one plant at a time. I would say, remove the dead flowers and leaves as that could throw off the Ph balance of the water as it decays.

A few fish might eat your problem.

When we had a pond we never did anything to the water lilies. They regenerated and did what they did. Nature took care of itself. During the winter we set their pots lower in the pond and the next year they came back.

You can clip them off - as far down as you can reach. You can cull the beat-up leaves the same way. As far down as you can reach, without actually getting INTO the pond to do it.
