Just keep making sure you bring your racquet over your shoulders and keep your control. When the ball comes to you, don't get too excited or else you will mess up, just keep your cool and keep your control. When you have your control, then you can start hitting the ball harder.

the main thing is to turn your shoulders and bend your knees.
keep your shoulders turned as you hit through the ball - this will automatically drive the ball cross-court - over the net at it's highest point.
also, if you can learn to hit topspin then you can likely hit harder, because topspin will drive the ball downward and make it more likely to stay within the lines.
also, you need to really move your feet in order to prepare to hit the ball - this is especially important if you have a two handed backhand.
it's best to take many small steps, almost like adjustment steps or what my instructor calls a 'split step.'
hope this helps...

practice consistency first, before thinking about hitting it hard.
apply the right kind of spin.
go for net clearance-- 3 to 5 ft above the net. Keep net height in mind-- hitting down the line over sides of the net is harder than hitting crosscourt or in the middle of the net where its the lowest.
make sure you're using the right grip for FH/BH/volley/serve/etc.
bend your knees especially on the BH to get under the ball.
turn ur shoulders through the shot, dont just arm it.
move those feet! when your opponent hits it, split step and anticipate where the ball is going. get there as quickly as you can with big steps then a lot of little steps to make sure you're in perfect position to get to the ball.
keep your eyes on the ball! don't close them immediately before, during, or after contact. you want to make sure that it hits the sweetspot of your raquet, not the frame. closing your eyes could do something you dont want to do like moving your raquet slightly one way or the other and the ball hits at a bad angle or something.

Make sure your placing them well, If you place the ball well, it wont matter if your groundstrokes aren't super strong. To get a faster harder shot its all in the .......
Raquet head speed
Follow Through
The 1st one is a no brainer, when you swing harder the ball goes faster.
The Follow through will add more of a pop to your shot. Also make sure you're using your hips and body weight to drive the ball.
Hope this helps!
Keep Practicing!
