For the same reason the London bridge isn't in London; it is in Arizona. And Big Ben isn't a large man, but a clock. Things are named the names they have for many reasons; might be fun to research how Piccadilly Circus was named. I, too, was disappointed when I toured London, and went to the circus, only to find a huge building and many, many people, and other touristy sights. Minutes later, I fell in love with what I did see, including Talfagar Square and Coventry Gardens...so much to see, so little time. Have fun, and enjoy the moment. Be optimistic and you will have a blast. And be broke. London is quite expensive, since the pound is twice as much as the dollar. Whoops, back to being optimistic. You CAN have a good time. Watch out for the clowns, though, as they are everywhere, posing as humans.

In the film Wayne's World 2, Wayne and Garth made a trip to London and were also disappointed to find out that Piccadilly Circus was not an actual circus.

The word 'Circus' is derived from 'Circle'. A circus, with clowns etc, may be so called because the centre stage is circular. So 'circus' may mean 'circle'.
