Ok. Let's just say I'm old enough to be laughed at for playing with dolls.

But I use them for acting out stories, like in medieval time settings. For instance, I have all my shelves organized into rooms which I decorate realistically (beds, blankets, picture frames, tables) All my dolls (Barbies, to be exact) have a position - Queen, princess, lady, cook, peasant, servant, etc.

Is that appropriate? I mean, playing with Barbies sounds like a really stupid thing to do, but in this case, they're more like realistic situations of "back when we had king/queens"

Please help take away this concern of mine!

Using your imagination at any age is great. Fantasies and daydreams don't go away as you age, society makes you hide them. Have you ever seen dads play with their young kids? They build forts together and gather "ammunition" for pretend war. They get dirtbikes to ride around with their sons. My husband NEEDS a 4x4 Jeep "to take his sons 4-wheeling". Mothers are the same way. What mom doesn't like playing Tea party with her daughter? Or dressing up in outrageous outfits just for fun? Adults enjoy using children as an excuse to play, so that should tell you that it's still just as exciting and fun now for them as it was when they could actually get away with it. I am by no means immature yet when my husband and I take the kids out for dinner, we love coloring with them on their menus. The waiters look at us weird, but who cares? Adults are generally sad, serious people. That's because someone told them they couldn't have innocent fun somewhere down the road. Don't become that. Enjoy your dolls and just have a fantastic life!

Even better, go join the SCA or something like that. Then you can play at being the lady, cook etc instead of letting your dolls have all the fun ;) Maybe even queen if you learn to wield your sword and shield well enough :)
I've helped out with medieval feasts and am learning to make medieval clothes and do medieval crafts. I'm not into sword and shield fighting, but I've just started learning rapier!

Famous directors have used barbies to create some of their early movies before becoming famous. Yes, the director of "ET" used barbies. Barbies are canvas on which the imagination paints its own pictures. When fantasy and reality are not confused in the mentality of an individual, there is no problem. Anybody who has a collection may display them in or out of the box. They pose and dress them to meet their needs. Enjoy them as much as you can while there is still the creative juices flowing. .

It's seems as though it's only incidental that the dolls are Barbies. You're doing scale model rooms and costuming.

There are more people doing it for school with Colonial Times as the era, but you're doing *your* research and practicing various crafts and developing fine motor skills.

11.5" dolls are easier to dress than 5.5" ones (dollhouse 1/12th scale), so 2" = 1' is a more comfortable scale.

Sounds like you have the making of a 'director' or even a playwright. Don't stop! Be creative and enjoy life! Chess is an adult game played with Kings, Queens, Knights, etc., and nobody ever accused grown ups of being too old, stupid, or silly playing with those, and they don't even have faces or bodies! Keep up the fun!!!

Imagination is always good unless you are on the edge of, or on the other side of reality (hah).

I like to watch Thats Clever and Crafters Coast to Coast where they highlight 3 crafters each show. Periodically they have doll makers (clay, cloth, and virtually any other mediums as well) and these crafters are so neat the way they work with their dolls and doll clothes (and interact with them in imaginative ways.).

Keep it up!!!

You sound fine to me! And I agree with candleslightup, but I think you should film your work. :>) Make your stories, dialog them, do different voices for the charactors. Then sell them! Did you ever see""Action League Now!"? It was an action figure tv show. There is a market for what you are doing for amusement. They say 'Do what you love', maybe this should become more. Good luck!

You be fine, girl! My mother made her last Barbie outfit just months before she died, so I guess you could say she played with Barbies all her life. (She passed at age 70!) We now all treasure the Barbie clothes she made for us. Her last 10 were Bridal Gowns made from actual gowns or the left overs from making them. She made my wedding dress and then made 5 Barbie wedding gowns from the left overs. (Different patterns of course.)

Its not stupid. Its a collection. At least its not "Omigosh! It's barbie fashion divas!" and stuff like that. Reanacting isn't really playing. Don't feel bad about it.
