Stop ALL illegal immigration. Reward those who respect our laws and punish those who do not. Simple.
No matter where they come from, there has to be a level of respect given to the sovereignty and borders of our nation.

Funny how the minute you bring up illegal aliens, people start talking about the law breakers in the same breath. The scum is such a small percentage of the amount of illegals we have in this country it's hardly worth mentioning.
There is an estimated 11 million illegal aliens in this country right now. . . . . living and working throughout ALL the states of the union. Some have lived here so long and have lived, worked and contributed to the SS system for so long that some qualify for substantial Social Security checks now and are still illegals.
Illegals have lived here unchecked for decades. But suddenly after 9/ll and especially in the last 5 years when California's economical issues came to light, we're suddenly all aghast and wanting to solve a problem that the Californians have been screaming about for years while the U.S. Government has all but ignored and condoned the whole out of control issue.
I don't know how you can ignore a situation in your house for decades and then when it begins to buckle under the stress of that unattended to, denied problem, you try to "fix" it.
Our laws won't allow but a certain number of people to become citizens in this country in a year's time. Our own laws make it impossible for folks to become citizen, when most want to, and then we scream when we can't fix the problem by deporting. It's too big a problem
We have to begin with changing the laws and being far more diligent about our borders. I agree. But honestly, I don't think the current President is at all concerned about any American issues at all. Just thank God you aren't under water.

I have different views on this, I do think that everything should be fair, so if they stop it from Mexico and Latin America it must stop everywere.
I think they should make it easier to come legally, because from what I personally see is that most illegal immigrants come to get jobs to feed there familys.
So I'm not sure were I stand, when my dad originally came here he was illegal, he has since become a permanent resident, and has been here for over 20 years now.

They should stop illegal immigration but they SHOULD change the law. They should make coming into the USA easier. Everyone talks about "Oh, why can't people wait and apply for visas like normal people." Let me ask you a question, do you know what their situation is? Unfortunately it's pretty difficult to find a decent job in South/Central America. Do you know what it's like to apply for a visa to come to the USA in those countries? AMERICANS sit in the embassy in...lets say for example...Mexico. Now a Mexican that has been working for ever just to save enough money to APPLY for a visa and get an appointment at the embassy comes along (by the way, did I mention they wait usually no less than 1 year for this appointment?) and tells the person why they want to go to the USA and all that crap. The person makes his decision whether the Mexican can go or not. It's basically like playing the lotto, and a very expensive one. Most people tell me that just to APPLY for a visa they have to pay about 150 dollars. That might not sound like much but...for someone in Mexico it could take them months to save that much money. Most people live off less than 300 dollars a month. Even less in poorer countries. So do you see why people prefer to come illegal than go through the trouble of spending 150 dollars and taking a CHANGE that they might be allowed to come to the USA?
I understand why people are mad about the illegal immigrants but I think they should stay quiet if they don't know the other persons situation. It's very easy to sit here in America, living nice and comfortably and say
"deport all the illegal immigrants, don't allow anymore into the country"
For some, it's a matter between life and death. My friend came here from Colombia after somebody threatened to kill her father and kidnap her and her siblings. He was a business owner, now he opened another successful business in America but thats besides the point, he didn't come to America for the money, but for the safety and a better opportunity for his children. (he's illegal by the way so yes, this is relevant to my answer)
People want to come to America to have a better life for themselves and for their family.
**A good amount do commit crimes and smuggle drugs, I agree, those ones should be deported. **
But most people come here to give themselves and their children a better opportunity in life!
Why do you think we should make peoples lives harder than they already are.
America is over in Iraq trying to help the people while in America they are tearing apart families and keeping people away from better opportunities.
My answer to the question is, yes and no.
Like I said, we should change laws so that its not necessary for people to immigrate to the USA illegally...
If they let people come easier there would be no need to come illegally and hide from the government and avoid paying taxes. People put all the blame on illegal immigrants and call them criminals for so many things that are out of their control.
Open your mind, think about the situation, understand what other people are going though and then open your mouth!

National defense Make securing our borders against a possible terrorist threat the top defense priority. No one who seeks to do us harm should be allowed to cross the border into U.S. territory. After all, a defense policy should benefit those who actually pay for it: the American people. Re-focus the efforts of our military and intelligence services on locating those individuals who planned the terrorist attacks on the U.S. and who remain at large. It must be made clear that the United States cannot be attacked with impunity. When I voted for the authorization to use force against those who attacked us in 2001, I did not imagine that we would be getting bogged down for years in a nation-building exercise in Afghanistan while the perpetrators remain at large. Efforts in that part of the world should be exclusively focused on apprehending those responsible for the attacks against the United States. Push for a complete overhaul of U.S. intelligence requirements and capabilities. For far too long, Congress has operated under the assumption that simply spending more on the intelligence community would make it more effective and efficient. We have unfortunately learned the hard way that this is not a wise approach. I have consulted with numerous current and former intelligence professionals about the need to re-assess our intelligence community and how it should function, and I will take action to implement such reforms as president. Privacy and personal liberty Ron Paul: I have fought this fight for many years. I sponsored a bill to overturn the Patriot Act and have won some victories, but today the threat to your liberty and privacy is very real. We need leadership at the top that will prevent Washington from centralizing power and private data about our lives. Iraq It is now time to bring our troops home. We must return our focus to finding bin Laden and making sure that we can be prepared for any future threats against our national security.

I'm sort of conflicted on this. But mostly I think...yeah.
As a US citizen and having to watch on the nightly news what I think are some pointless stories about a few immigrants not being convicted, deported, or even held for crimes that I, as a citizen, would be convicted of and have to serve my time for, I can't help but agree with immigration laws, and an electricly wired border fence.
However, I think that it's just too hard to become a US citizen. Some immigrants can't get a even a passport to travel from their home country (Cuba and Venezuela, for example). Without a passport, it's immpossible to even admit that you're here, let alone applying for citizenship. We deport those immigrants as if they have committed a drug crime.
I personally know a man who had to spend 8 years getting his citizenship and bringing his wife and children to the US legally. 8 YEARS without his wife and children...leaving them in Columbia to fend for themselves while he is here filling out years and years of useless paperwork. I commend him and his family for going through all that and still making it work.
So, in the end, I cannot accept illegal immigration, but I also think it's too hard for honest, hardworking, lawabiding people to be able to enter this country and make a fresh start.

Illegal immigration puts a burden on society in America. Our classrooms are overcrowded, our welfare is overburdened and social security for those who pay taxes is dwindling. Many illegals have no intention of assimilating which further burdens our society in that if you speak English only it's very difficult to get a government job, from a City job on up. The taxpayers are picking up the tab for illegal aliens and the aliens don't care. They are looking out for themselves. If they want to come to America legally and assimilate by at least learning the language, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, we need to have strict laws that are enforced by a strong government who puts it's legal citizens first.

I strongly disagree with stopping illegal immigration.
I agree with the fact that too many people come over here but you have to think that majority of them come from their poverty stuck countries in search of a new and hopefully prosperous beginning.
Wether we as American are willing to admit it or not, most of the immigrants do all the dirty jobs that we look down upon.
How many Americans do you see doing yardwork these days? We are all to lazy and we hire people.
For all of you who think that we should stop it, I seriously suggest you should put yourself in the place of a someone who lives their lives with barely any food on the table and hardly any clothes to put on the backs of their children. Wouldn't you want the best for you and your family?

Yes. We need to put electric fences around the border and anybody trying to break in gets shot. No questions asked. I'm getting sick of this. It's not fair that other immigrants work hard to get here then some just waltz right in and don't even bother learning our language.

This should be done on a case by case basis depending upon the individual's age, job skills, language skills, level of education, criminal record, and possibility of obtaining a useful job and becoming a self sustained citizen of the USA.
They should also have a maditory citizenship test and IF they pass it along with the other guidelines they should be able to becom a US citizen.

i agree and disagree.
i agree because they could take most of our jobs. they work hard because they want to stay here and the work for little because they'll take whatever they can get to feed their family. job owners want to pay as little as posible for their workers. so all they need to do is hire an immigrant.
i disagree because they want the best they can get and living here is better than living there. we're taunting them by saying we're a free country.and they're so close to america they'll do anything to get here. even if they're illegal.
