i just got them yesterday and i moved them into a bigger tank. i put little rocks down and some water so there are dry and wet patches in there. they were moving when i put them in there and i checked on them last nigth and they were both tucked into their shells and one buried itself under a few little pebbles under some water? the other is right near it and they havent moved since last night....dead or alive?

Remove the pebbles---they are dangerous in a turtle tank, as the turtles will eat them and become impacted. Is the water heated to the correct temperature? Do you have a heat lamp and basking spot? A UVB light? Check your set up. Take the turtle out to see if it is alive--they don't stay tucked up in their shells if they are dead.

A dead turtle would not be tucked into it's shell. It's body would relax in death and the head and all four limbs would be extended from the shell.
Many reptiles consider moving into a new home a rather traumatic experience and it is not unusual for them to hide. They should come out in a couple of days, they are probably already coming out when you have gone to bed for the night and turned off all of the lights.

Most will tuck when they are in a total stressed state or they will tuck if they are in a total relaxed state!! Turtles normally go limp when they pass away...

I agree with Kim here remove the pebbles as they can cause an obstruction if they eat them..they are probably just stressed from the move.

I have a RES that hides in a flower pot all the time in the tank. I usually have to really look for him...

Just keep an eye on the turtles! If they are still tucked in their shell when you pick them up...gently flip them over and see if you get a reaction..

Is the water in your tank warm enough?

from what it seems like if the turtle is still withdrawn within its shell then it may still be alive but if it has not surfaced in a long while then it may not be alive ur best bet is to take the turtle out and check yourself

the only way to know is by taking them out, a way to know is if they're tucked in their shell then you can touch one of his legs if he tucks them in more it means he's alive if he doesn't move i don't know, my best guess is that they're alive because if they were dead they wouldn't be tucked in their shell.

You may need to pick them up and look at them more closely. Perhaps they are just getting used to their new habitat. Or, if you gave thme new water, did you use a de-chlorifier to cleanse it? Because if you didn't, the water can potentially poison and kill your turtles. Same goes with fish.
