An equation requires an = sign.
4 x ² - 9 is not an equation , it is an expression.
4 x ² - 9 = (2x - 3) (2x + 3)
If it was an equation:-
2x - 3 = 0 , 2x + 3 = 0
x = 3 / 2 , x = - 3 / 2
