Could be somebody forgotten by modern fans, or somebody that is under appreciated.
I have 2 people that come to mind. Andy Hebenton holds the record for most consecutive pro hockey iron man record. We make such a big deal about Cal Ripken and nobody has ever heard of Andy Hebenton.

Another very underrated player is Doug Gilmour. Sure everybody has heard of him, but it seems that nobody realizes just how great he was.

Gilmour overrated? Are you drunk? He is 16th all time in points, and 12th in assists. That's better stats than Brett Hull, is he overrated too?

Doug Harvey

He helped lead the Canadians to six Stanley Cup Trophies while winning seven Norris Trophies as the NHL's best defenseman. Only the great Bobby Orr won more.

I find it hard that anyone would believe that Andy Hebenton is underrated. he was an average NHLer at best, and has the statistics to match. Unlike Cal Ripken who set his record at the highest level of the game, Hebenton's record includes an awful lot of minor hockey. Using your theory, Karlis Skrastins is a very underrated defenceman (which I don't believe he is).

As far as Doug Gilmour is concerned, there are 17 people in the Hall of Fame Committee who think he's overrated.

It is probably imossible to talk about the 'most' under-rated person, so I'll give you a name of a player who doesn't get near the recognition he deserves. I can think of dozens in his boat, but I'll give you one

Let's not get into a Doug Gilmour debate. He is very overrated especially in Toronto where they treat Bryan McCabe like Bobby Orr. How about Bob Bourne or John Tonelli? Those guys meant more to the Islanders than Gilmour did with his seven teams he played on! Tonelli was a hell of a winger.

How about Marcel Dionne or Brad Park, Johnny Bucyk, Brian Trottier, Frank Mahovolich, Henri Richard, Rod Gilbert, Alex Delvecchio, Dave Keon, I could go on but there are tons of great players that history has tended to forget. And I haven't gotten into the great goaltenders that are always overlooked when people make top lists of players.Adam Oates comes to mind as well.

Malone, Denneny, and Ratelle are all interior the Hockey corridor of acceptance. that's no longer a demonstration of being underrated. One call i could throw out is one that shows up on television usually. Ray Sheppard became never between the super names interior the NHL nor became he a huge celebrity. yet a soft participant who toiled in anonymity generating extra advantageous than his share of things.
