I recently purchased a gateway GT5464 and i bought a great lan and video card because I am an online gamer. The problem is that i still get severe cases of lag during the game and the fan in my CPU used to be silent before, and now its never silent. I want to know what will fix this problem, i've been suggested to get a bigger power supply and some more ram, but i want to know for sure before i purchase these if that will resolve my computer issues.

that sounds about right i have an emachines(gateway) t5224 you definitly need more memory try pricewatch for power supply and memory its because of vista uses alot of memory you need at least 2 gigs realy unfortunitly you will have to buy 2 1 gig sims cause you have 2 512 sims now plus you only have a 300 watt power supply you need more power for your video card(we have differant cpu's but the rest is the same) i recomend at least a 500 watt power supply with a 120mm fan but check em out some make alot of noise
try gearxs.com for power supples they are good for that get a good one though like a thermolake or something like it no echo stars or powmax they burn up easy and remember to run a pci.e video card you need at least 400 watt supply and remember vista eats memmory but you can only go upto 2 gigs at 667

If you have a good graphics card (around 512mb or more) and it still lags I reckon it is the RAM. I edit videos and add special effects etc and bought ram 2 days ago. Just put it in yesterday and my computer is faster than ever! I had like 8 programs running with no lag and doing tonnes of stuff at a time.
I reccomend more ram but not from a big store at the shopping centres like harvey norman, go to a computer shop! They are much cheaper

I like the answers the others have given, but the lag may be a result of your internet connection. You may have the fastest computer, but it doesn't mean anything over a dial-up connection. If you have over 512 MB on the Video card and over 2GB of ram and a dual core processor I would look at my connection speeds. This may mean you have to buy more bandwidth from your ISP.

You did not say how much memory you have, or what video card you bought. The fan is louder because your new video card dumps more heat into the air inside the box, and the fan is trying to cool it off. Unless you already have a gigabyte or two of memory, more memory will probably help. Hopefully you have a capable processor.
