Almost every Sunday evening, I get an awful anxious, dreadful feeling regarding going into work on Monday. Monday morning it passes and I am ok at work but I don't know how normal this is. I have been teaching for several years and have been seriously considering leaving the profession. Is this apprehensive feeling common? Anyone else get this way?

This is your subconscious speaking - and you should listen. If you've been thinking about leaving the profession, now would be a good time to take some serious steps in that direction, because it is obviously getting to you. And it won't get any better with time.
Use your experience and find a job that leaves you feeling upbeat on Sunday night because you know that Monday morning you will be setting off to do something that you really enjoy.

I used to get that way every time I had to work at a retailer that no longer exists (big surprise). My bosses were incompetent, the hours were long, the customers were slobs, and my job was constantly interrupted b/c I had to run registers during peak times. I was actually pretty happy for myself to learn that I'd have to find another job b/c we were closing.

As a teacher, I don't usually get that feeling unless I know I have a conference the next day with a disgruntled parent. My guess is you're itching to try something new. Finish out the year and start job hunting. Good luck!

Yes, you are not alone about this. I haven't always had the same job, but I have always had the apprehensive feeling of going back to work on Sundays to the point where I don't sleep well on Sunday night and lucky if I sleep 2 hours. I always drag myself to work on Monday mornings. My point is, if you leave this profession, you will still experience it with any job you have. You may be having anxiety attacks.

Yes. I taught for 30 years, and got that same anxious feeling. It's all part of the joy of teaching - you never know what the week's going to bring. Without it, I suspect one would get too laid back about the whole thing. It's the same just before going on stage to perform (which is what we do in front of a class any way, isn't it?) It is quite normal. Hope this helps

Absolutely! The sound of the clock ticking on 60 minutes gets my adrenaline rushing and gets me thinking about what I need to do before Monday morning. It's tough but it's still the same after all these years. I don't think it's a reason to quit though...especially if you do OK once you get there.

there were three of us that all lived together and taught. two of us felt that way almost 80% of the time, but the third was never anxious- but more sad. Anxiousness is sorta natural, but i would think you would have it down to a 20-30 minute blip when you go over plans or or start plans or something. Seems like you'd start to master it at about 5 years.

Why do you want to leave teaching? It really sounds like there is more going on that just the "The is the last day of the weekend" Blues, which we all get at least now and then.

I know as a student i get it....i dread school and i believe it is common, but if it really bothers you and you are ready to retire from the profession. Then i seriously suggest that....no point wasting your life away.

well im still in high school...and i get the same exact feeling on sunday evenings about going to school monday morning. and on saturdays i dread how im gonna feel on sunday
