how come on scrubs j.d wears scrubs while elliot wears a white coat??? i thought they were both doctors?! im confused!!!!lol

Personal choice. An early episode (maybe season 3 or so) had J.D. wearing a coat and getting mocked, so that probably turned him off of that.

How early are the "earlier episodes"? I know that Elliot does wear scrubs at first. In season 5, though, she was in an endocrinology fellowship at another hospital and probably felt prompted to dress more professionally so that she might appear more confident. Remember her telling the staff there that she doesn't need help with anything?

It's because she's a private practice doctor. When she moves over the private practice she asks if anyone wants to say anything and Turk says something like you're just moving across they hall, same place different coat.

I know Elliott went into private practice sometime in the last season or two...perhaps that's the reason???
