"Because they'r evil. Because they're ruthless. Because they would do it to us in a heartbeat."
1. These things don't matter. Torture of an enemy, no matter how evil, no matter how ruthless is in direct violation of the principals of democracy.
2. The fact that they would do it to us just proves the point even more. They do it. We don't. That is what makes us the good guys and them the bad guys. As Friedrich Nietzsche said "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster."
3. Don't you think an enemy would be more willing to surrender if they knew they would be treated humanely? If they knew they would be tortured they'd probably strap a bomb to themselves to blow up a few people as they went.
4. Torture makes new enemies. George Washington, the father of our country, strictly forbade mistreatment of POW's during the Revolutionary War, even though the enemy allowed it. This actually convinced enemy troops to join the American cause.

Inreality, you are an the ignorant one. Once again , someone tries to equate "Patriotism" with "blindly follwoing your government without question."

I agree with you. Torture is the most inhumane act. I believe we should abolish it. If you advocate the use of torture, then you are cold-hearted and evil.

1) Democracy and torture have nothing to do with each other. One is a method of government, the other a method of extracting information. Please don't draw connections where none exist.
1, addendum) You have yet to define "torture". It has a definition. Please use the common one in the dictionary rather than making up your own.
2) There are no "good guys" or "bad guys". They declared war on us with their attacks. We are responding. We are not fighting monsters. We're fighting people who use terrorists tactics, ignore the Geneva conventions, and expect us to follow them and never kill civilians even by accident.
3) My family escaped Islam in the 1950s. We've been expecting this war for decades. Surrender? You have no idea what you are talking about.
4) We have Muslim people and others from all over the world joining our cause, sending their own troops into Lebanon, and other areas, in attempts to root out the terrorists from their own countries where before they were welcome.
I'd say we're doing find.
Torture is something the enemy does.
By rights, within the Geneva Conventions, we would be allowed to shoot each of them on sight (no uniform, behind enemy lines) with NO trial.
You tell us we're doing it wrong when we give them every chance to live? I agree.
Shoot on sight. Capture, question, shoot.
You have my full support.

Real torture is not the most effective way to get information. What liberals call torture is not torture.
1. There is nothing wrong with beating one of our enemies. If this is what it takes to get information, fine.
2. Cite sources where actual torture was used.
3. Our enemy has stated that they want to die for their cause.
4. We have enemies no matter what we do.

Right. Obviously preferable that a bomb go off and kill a few thousand people than play loud music and deprive the suspected bomber of sleep. Amazing how the left tries to conjure up visions of the rack and the iron maiden. Boogabooga.

Like the death penalty, can you not give up you freedom due to your behavior? When you target civilians and use unconventional warfare as the only tactic, why should you be treated equally with the rest of us? Our torture is a joke compared to other countries. Like you said, just because they do it doesnt mean we can do it. However, we cant interrogate terrorists with lollipops. Sometimes we have to do shady things. Sometimes, the information a terrorist can give is vital to the lives of innocent people. What do you choose, let the terrorist live in peace or save the innocent people? Call them both evils if you would like. Either way, you have to choose the lesser of two evils.

1. Torture of enemies doesnt have a damn thing to do with democracy. Democracy is a form of government, not a questioning method for terrorists.
2. What makes us the good guys is that we don't blow ourselves up in crowded markets and stores. We don't ever try to harm the civilians, though it does happen at times.
3. No, muslims don't care about surrender. They care about either converting you to islam or if that can't be done, killing you.
4. Washington did what he did because if the country fell back to the brits he wanted to be able to point that out. Yes, the result was that a few people with ethical minds switched to our side.

Well Scotty, evidently you never knew someone who was blown apart in a war and lived to tell about it or how they saw their buddy blown up in much blood and pieces. The terrorists want ALL Americans dead, and we should be nice? They are strapping bombs to themselves because they want to kill us, NOT to AVOID TORTURE, stop creating fairy tales.
Maybe you should join the ACLU and advocate for pedophiles, murders, rapist's, illegals, drug dealers/terrorists and anyone of ANY color or creed who yells racist or bigot for attention and money. Just don't apply for a job in any prison!

Oh, I believe in freedom, but let me give you a hypothetical scenario....
Let's say that I had a child and on her way home from school, she got beaten up and raped. Several days after the rape and beating, my daughter begins to come to and although barely hanging on to her life, she remembers that there were five men involved.
One of these men has been captured and refuses to snitch on his 'friends'. In the meanwhile his friends are free to torture some more and cause harm, pain and grief to others.
If I could get my hands and through torture, force the one who has been captured to snitch on his pals, you bet I would! You see, unless it directly effects you and your life, it's difficult to place yourself into the lives of others.

If I thought an enemy soldier had information about p.o.w.'s who were my comrades, I would highly recommend he volunteer that information at the earliest opportunity. Now what would you say if one of those p.o.w.'s was your little brother or sister. Join the real world.

Note here that every single response in favor of torture comes down to, "The ends justify the means." This is the reasoning of tyrants. In doing this we become what we seek to destroy.
