It will be freshwater, and at the aquarium store here enough sand for my aquarium would be like $40. I know I can get play sand for like $3 for a 40 lb. bag. Thanks!

hi there i wdnt use it as i have cold water fish and in the book i have they say that you have to use there sand and gravel as they have nutrients in it that help the fish,too be honest i think its aload of rubbish as i have put stones off the beach in mine and it tells you not too,but they are massive now and well looked after so?i wd drain the sand first to get all the crap out of it too make it cleaner good luck

I dont believe play sand will be a problem as long its rinsed thoroughly prior to use.....however I think most play sand is a silica based sand which can scratch a glass tank much easier than most other substrates such as aragonite based sand

Best not too as tank sand is perified and these can sometimes effect the fish.Tank sand is cheap and worth getting to be safe.Hope this helps.

Yes you can. Make sure it washed well using hot and cold water. One good thing about using play sand, it''s natural and you don't have to worry about paint coming off.

of course in the ocean and lake fish do so I would think they could in a tank too and plus you save alot of money to use on more important stuff just rinse it first
