Metaformin helps with the insulin-Resistance portion of PCOS for those women who have experienced it. When trying to get pregnant, some doctors will use it as a method to address potential insulin-Resistance as well as help a woman with PCOS lose weight to increase chances of fertility. With about 50% of patients (somewhere in there, check WEBMD for accurate stats), metaformin is enough to enduce ovulation in women with PCOS. In others, 70% respond to Clomid and Metaformin together.

The biggest problem with PCOS (one that I share with you and am currently experiencing) is that we don't ovulate regularly and in turn don't produce progesterone that causes us to have periods. If you still aren't having periods on this first step, this means you may need to have additional help to ovulate. Once pregnant, your doctor will also need to monitor your progesterone to make sure that it maintains a level necessary to continue a healthy pregnancy.

I am past the Clomid/metaformin stage because it didn't work for me (made me very sick and sent me to the emergency room from the side effects--yes I am one of THOSE lucky people), but I certainly hope it works for you. Ask your doctor for some additional help if you need it.

My spouse was once identified with PCOS a few years in the past. Her endocrinologist placed her on Metformin (Glucophage) to support keep watch over her blood sugar which affected her cycles (abnormal) and ovulation (much more abnormal). For essentially the most facet, it is helped. It's made her cycles extra constant. We welcomed the start of our son not up to a 12 months after she was once located on it. Good Luck!

In order for you to fall pregnant you have to determine when you ovulate. I was also diagnosed with PCOS and was put on metformin to regulate my periods. I have been taking it for 6 months now and have it has helpedregulate my period. Just this month my doctor also started me on clomid 50mg. i am waiting now to see when i ovulate.

Good luck to you

you need to be ovulating in order to get preg. though so if your not having a peirod you probably aren't ovulating. Your doc. should also give you somehting for that as well.
