yea, i built a large terrieum for my lizard and it was easy so i imagine building one for a fish wouldnt be too hard. I didnt even use blueprints i just went to home depot bought stuff i thought i would need and it went well.

well....
i really dont see how it would be possible but don't listen to the other people that said its NOT possible because they don't know that they just never tryed lol,
i have faith in ya buddy!.!.!
but yea i think it might be possible if you have pre-cut glass and maybe you can put some kind of special rubber around the edges and then after the special kinda rubber you could put duct tape around all the edges...
and then put some special blue colored rocks down there for the little fishy's...
and maybe a few things that they could get in like big open rocks like they have a pet stores...
good luck!...

Wow, good for you. The only thing I would worry about is making it water tight without using a glue that is toxic. I know you can buy glue to use on pvc water pipes for potable water. Why don't you build a little proto-type and go from there. Heavy glass would be expensive, too. Look at the one you have and see how it's constructed.

You could, but you'd need to reinforce the seams well because of the pressure from the water.
Most people who build their own use thick acrylic - it's easier to cut and lighter weight, but it will scratch easier than glass. Here's some instructions for this: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/diy_list.php
The nice thing about making your own is that you can make custom sizes for odd-sized spaces, or wide low tank for fish that don't need a lot of depth (stingrays, which several users have been asking about recently).

You can but my guess is by the time you bought all the materials it wouldnt be worth it. I just sold a fishtank on ebay with tons of stuff (saltwater) for $20 bucks.. Why don't you look for a used one on craigslist.com. I'll bet you could get one for for cheap!

yes it is if you can make a glass box and the reinforce the corners so it will not leak.
I once made a fish tank out of plastic bottles and a toy gum ball machine it was small though
but I bet you could try and trying never hurts
