Ok, I'm male too, I admit, I have looked at porn, but my 19 year old son is looking at porn almost all night, every night on the web. He is looking at freaky stuff too. I'm starting to think he has a problem. how do I know? Everything that goes on with MY internet feeds through my system so I can see who is doing what on the web.

So how much is too much, should I confront him, cut him off, or leave it alone?

Last summer we almost got sued for his illegal downloading music, so I setup a spy system. He would not stop not matter how much I threatned him, when we got a letter from an attorney, he finally stopped it and got freaked out. However, now he sits up all night watching porn, this can't be healthy?

I'm open for ideas, what would you do?

You need to get some more babysitting software installed to put a stop to that.
Your boy is subject to addictive behaviors... he doesn't know when to stop and doesn't see the consequences for his actions.
Your boy is looking at porn, which is objectifying women (making him see women as objects instead of people) and may result in him never being able to develop a real relationship with females. No, it is NOT healthy.
I think you need to get him in for professional counseling.

It's not as unhealthy as all that. Our society is highly oversexed.

One thing you might consider, though, is cutting off the internet at a certain hour every night. That might make it more likely he'll sleep. Or move out.

Put the cable modem and switch in an area where he can't get to it, and then put the power on a timer switch. The more removed you are from the process, the less personal and judgmental it will seem.

Just explain that you believe there should be limits on how much the internet dominates our lives, and you're taking a stand that it will be off every night from, say...midnight to 6am.

Just a thought.

Wow. There are alot of different opinions on here. Here are my thoughts: 1. Why did you put spyware on his computer? This suggests to me that something about his behavior made you want to know what he was doing. 2. I don't think that looking at "pre-teen girls" is a normal exploratory thing. By this, I mean 6-12 year old girls. Pedophiles usually are attracted to younger girls/boys and they will find rationalizations for their attractions-such as "they know what they are doing." 3. I don't know what you should do in this situation. If you confront him about it, you have to admit what you did, which was an invasion of his privacy. Has he ever done anything to any young girls? If he has, well, this is a different matter to be reported to the police. If you do confront him, you could suggest that he consider counseling. Good luck.
