does anyone know the proper step to take to open a zoo because my lifelong dream has been to own a zoo and i love lions so my dream was to at least own a lion and a monkey but i would just like to know how would someone go about starting a zoo how do you get all the permits and the right land and how do you know where to get the land and how much money do you think it would take. i know ill probably never have enough money so dont start telling me how its a lost cause because i know it probably is unless i could somehow raise millions of dollars by making a fake charity or something (before you start telling me how wrong that is im not planning on opening a fake charity)

Well..the Irwin's started their own zoological facility back in the 70s that now is the Australia Zoo, so this isn't an undreamable dream.

I don't know about zoning permits, but I know there are many regulating laws relating to animal care and use for example, 7USC and 9CFR (if you're in the USA). There are high standards concerning animal care, and achieving these standards is going to take millions, if not billions, of dollars...

Another route you could take is to look towards becoming a curator of mammals at an already established zoo. however, this job is hard work:
you'd be primarily responsible for the long-range management of the department and its daily operations. This position maintains regular communication with the Supervisor of Mammals and Animal Care Specialists in order to stay informed of the state of health of all the mammals in the collection. Changes in individual animals' diets are also noted in consultations with the mammal and veterinary staffs. Curators use their in-depth knowledge of mammals to develop and manage breeding programs and to help create and maintain studbooks for the long-term propagation of species to ensure their genetic viability. Curators are responsible for the creation and implementation of behavioral enrichment programs for the animals in the collection, helping to create an environment that is physically and mentally stimulating for the animals. Assisting with the concept development and design new animal exhibits, curators work with the contractors during the construction process.

How about waiting until you get out of college and have that first degree before asking this question.

Two important things. The largest and most successful zoos are publicly owned and tax dollar supported. Opening a zoo just because you love animals is the wrong reason.

You have not even learn proper spelling and grammar yet. So, you have a long long way to go.

Like I say. Ask this question again. Get that degree in zoology with a minor in business first.

you will be too busy digging up fossils to have time to operate a zoo. there was a small zoo not too far from where i live, but it was shut down cause the owners didn't take good enough care of some of the animals. i don't mean you wouldn't take care of the animals.......i mean that even a small zoo or game farm, with non-endangered animals may not be out of the question. don't give up your dreams, but keep them in mind as you pursue your education.

If you know it is a lost cause then why are you asking?
