That is what bull snakes do. In the wild, they spend most of their time underground in old rodent burrows. Bull snakes are a sub species of gopher snakes, which get their names because they live in abandoned gopher burrows. Also, most of the food gopher snakes and bull snakes eat , they find underground.

Most likely he is just stressed from his move to a new home. Let him be for up to a week. Don't hold him or worry about feeding him. Keep fresh water in the cage. Soon enough he will come out exploring or looking for food. As long as your husbandry care is ok, he should be just fine in few days. When you do start to hold him, just do it for a few minutes every other day or so to get him used to you. Feed him in a seperate container so that he does not relate your hand in his cage with food.

It is quite natural for snakes to spend the majority of their days hiding and to come out at night looking for food.
