When you first purchase a turtle they will not normally eat because their habitat and environment has changed. Stress has alot to do with it as well. They can go a week or two without eating...don't worry this is normal.
I would not introduce veggies yet because you want the turtle to except pellets first as this is one of their main sources of food!. I would suggest not giving the veggies and stick to the pellets right now as turtles will not starve themselves.
Breaking the pellets up smaller will help....Put them in the water and walk away if the turtle is skittish or nervous. Keep trying...If the turtle is eating them you will see nothing in the tank. If the turtle is not eating them you will see them at the bottom of the tank...Pellets when soggy do make a mess....
They will cloud the water etc...
Hope this helps. If you need more info email me through my profile...

you can get turtle food from almost any if not any fish store. Also, can you not get a hold of the guy who sold the turtles to you and ask him exactly what it was he gave them? Call the local pet store and ask if they have someone who knows turtles and talk to him/her for advice. You didn't say how old the turtles are or how long you have had them for. PS. An inch and a half are decent sized. I would assume the regular turtle diet would be just fine :o)

pellets shouldn't be their main source of food, when they're babies they're 90% carnivores so you should feed them crickets, when i first got my RESs i fed them pellets but then i realized that i wasn't feeding them right, then i tried feeding them crickets now the babie one doesn't eat anything but crickets, but the big one eats mealworms, waxworms, phoenix worms, and she also eats ham, but she's not such a big fan of lettuce or any other vegetable.
Hope i helped!!!!

Check out this site for complete diet advice. They need much more than what you are feeding!
Make sure his setup is correct: large enough tank, heating lamp, basking spot, UVB bulb, water heater, water filter, etc.

Pellets suck.
You should feed it earthworms, insects, and tiny minnows (not goldfish).
