Definitely a seminal year for rock music, no doubt. So much change that year spearheaded by, who else?- The Beatles.

Other important years for rock, IMO, would be 1955, 1964, 1969, & 1977.

Yes it was
Days of Future Passed-The Moody Blues
Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery-The Beatles
The Doors, Strange Days-The Doors
Jefferson Airplane-Surrealistic Pillow
Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Cream's Disraeli Gears
The Jimi Hendrix Experience's Are You Experienced?
The Who Sell Out - The Who

Monterey Pop Festival-first mega music festival (precursor to woodstock)

personally I like 1972 also
Close to the Edge, Fragile - Yes
Foxtrot - Genesis
Machine Head, made in japan - Deep Purple
Pictures at an Exhibition - Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Thick as a Brick - Jethro Tull

it was good, but hard to choose from 1968 or 1969, which could also hold that title as far as I'm concerned. The late 60's and the 70's were awesome rock times. No decades before or since can even compare in my opinion.

The best year in the history of rock has to be 1982, Bruce Dickinson joined Iron Maiden and help turn them into a superpower within the rock world.
