Get in touch with your government representative. Chances are the Senior's Center is receiving funding of some kind from the government, and there are very strict guidelines in place that have to be followed to keep their funding!

This is not at all right.

There is sure something wrong with that. Call and talk to the mayors office, usually senior centers are run by the cities and the mayor runs the city. If not in your area, write a letter to the editor of the paper and complain. These younger people have no right to do that to you. Stand up and let people know. Make a fuss. The squeeky wheel gets the oil.

I'm not sure if you are talking about the senior section here or an actual senior center. Some senior centers have age requirements. Different places classify seniors at different ages. Some places begin at 50, others 55, 60 or 65 before you can join. You may need to ck into the guidelines of the place you are referring to and have a discussion with them about their policies.

edit: Thanks for explaining what is going on. I agree that contacting the local paper or writing a letter to the editor would be good. That way people in you community will know this is going on too. Best wishes in dealing with this, you seem to be handling it quite well.

By Senior Center, I presume you mean a place where Seniors can go and play cards, socialize, get information, plan outings, etc.
I also presume this is in a
church??? If this is the case,
whoever has formed this
center has an obligation to
run it for and in the interests
of the Seniors, and comes
under all laws that pertain
to Seniors.
Cal. has very specific laws
concerning this. I suggest
you contact Area Agency on
Aging, also,go online to
Cal. Government. There are
many Senior advocates
working in Sacramento.
Check with attorneys that
handle Senior problems.
Contact your county Ombudsman for Seniors....
also contact the Live In
Sr. Centers and get info
from them.
It doesn't take much to
sue for "elder abuse" (if you
think it has come to that.)

See if your problems get resolved in an adequate manner next week.

If not, you live in San Bernardino County and you should call Aging and Adult Services. You can get them on the Agency On Aging Hotline at 1-800-510-2020. This number will automatically direct you to your local agency. They should be able to help you get this resolved.

I do believe that you do not have to be a senior citizen to run one, but must be a senior to belong to one. Different cities have different age limits. Check with the city or county you live in.

The question is who owns the center. There is no problem with discriminating against people because of their age. After all you can't be a member of AARP until you are a certain age.

I hope you are not talking about an actual center. It sounds as if you may be talking about this site.
