I'm trying to burn DVD's and it keeps saying error.

On the front it says, "CD-Writer/DVD-ROM Combo." I'm not sure what that means.

Depends on the specific model.

Does the drive have a DVD R/RW or the RW/DVD-ReWritable logo on the front plate? If so, you have a DVD burner. Else, you don't. It's that simple.

EDIT: What it says is quite obvious: it burns CDs, but only READS DVDs (DVD-ROM, where ROM = read only memory).

Compaq usually releases models in the sequence of a lower end model and a better model for about $100 more.
For example a "5030" will have a lower end cpu and a CD curner / dvd READER

While a 5130 will have a better cpu, maybe more ram, maybe a larger hard drive and a DVD burner.

So not all have DVD burners.
