This morning--Sun. Sept. 16--we went out to go to breakfast, got in the car and when we started it the fuel smell seemed strong. Thought nothing of it at the time but, after 2 stops, getting in and out of the car--the same thing. Finally, when we parked at home, I walked around it and the smell was most strong on the driver's side. We looked under the car and the only thing dripping was the a/c. It's a 2002 Chrysler 300M and we have never had trouble with it before. Please no asinine answers they are such a waste of time. Any ideas???

Most often it's a loose gas cap. The caps have to be turned three or four "clicks" to seal properly.

On occasion the little valve in the gas cap will stick "open". They are supposed to let air into the tank and not out. If the little spring operated valve sticks the gasoline vapors will leak out.

Otherwise, if this all looks OK, you might have a look at the fuel rail where the fuel injectors are hooked up to the intake manifold. With the car running there should be no smell or any spray under the hood.

It might have been another car in the parking lot that just came from the fuel station and spilled some fuel or it may have had a problem that let these gasoline vapors out.

Good Luck!

Wish I could help more, but not much to go on here. Keep an eye on the oil level. I have heard of fuel injectors hanging open and filling the crankcase with gas.. Also check your air cleaner and see if it is wet. Could be same problem.

sounds retarded, yes...

but check to see if your fuel cap is on... and is on tightly.

*** AFTER RE-READING... I bet your gas fill is on the drivers side. Seriously check cap. If cap is on.. Look by gas tank for obvious fuel leak.

if yes...

pop hood and check for a stronger fuel smell or for obvious fuel leak, also check under car.

if under the hood dont run it.

contact a mechanic. fuel spraying anywhere on the motor is bad.

If you can smell fuel then there must be a fuel leak. Get it checked out urgently.
