it depends on your birthdate. consult books by lillian too regarding 8 mansions/ east-west concept.
the problem with the master used by lillian too is that facing has different takes among different masters. according yap cheng hai or whom lillian too consulted about her books is that facing should be what your head (when lying down) or your headboard is facing; while other masters say that it is the direction which you feet (when lying down) points. i think facing is the latter, because facing is also the direction you face when watching tv. and it is difficult to watch tv when it is on the same side as your head. therefore, if your head is facing north, then your feet must be facing south - thus, you are facing is south, not north.
it really depends on your birthdate. get the book, then use your birthdate to calculate your kua, then look up what direction is south.
on the other hand, direction is not that important as location. fengshui is like having a business, you want it to be accessible to the right people. in case of fengshui, you want your bedroom accessible to right/ good energy.
like i said before, this energy or chi cannot be felt or sensed by people. it can only be predicted using the fengshui concepts to calculate what combinations is located at what location in the house.
there is a book written by eva wong called a master course in fengshui, and it teaches about flying stars concept. this is the formula for this.
this is much effective than pointing your bed to a particular direction, which do not attract love, wealth nor success into your life - you are just made sensitive to those areas of your life.
but i should remind you that the most important thing in fengshui is to have your main door (of the house) at the preferable location, having a preferable facing degree, because this will dictate how lucky your life can be, even if you are just living in 1 bedroom in a large building. this factor is still critical.
only a person who gets their fengshui info for free from websites or books believe that having a fengshui's bed/ bedroom is good for them. but in reality, most fengshui practitioners focus on the main door and the whole house, particularly which rooms you do business or daily life like living room, office and kitchen, which is a very important room, because it is what attract wealth into your life. there is a secret to do this, that is not published in any books. and no one including me like to share it. you need to hire someone to do it for you.
going back to your bed, don't worry about it. if nothing bad is happening, then don't change a thing. bad fengshui can often result to bad events like a heart attack, or an accident. it is never that you feel bad in a room. remember that chi can never be sensed or felt. thus, you need to calculate it.
why a heart attack? i got a friend who's mom had a heart attack some years ago. when i used flying stars at their home, i found that the side where his mom is sleeping has too much fire - which can cause a heart attack at the right time.
so, you see, you really need to use these concepts or hire somebody to do it for you. it is much more effective and precise than getting free info that do not work!

It's been awhile since I read anything about Feng Shui, but I don't remember anything saying "death" like that! When they say the bed is "facing the door," that means that if you're laying in the bed and you look straight ahead that the door is on the wall directly in front of you. (So yes, the bed can be placed so it doesn't face the door in this way.) I don't know the reasoning behind it. The only thing I've ever heard that was considered "bad luck" was to have your bed facing a mirror. But again I've never heard anything saying "death" based on where someone puts their furniture. At its most basic level, Feng Shui is supposed to be about the flow of energy in a space. As long as you can move freely around the room without bumping into things and keep clutter to a minimum, it should be flowing just fine. :)

I don't know about what feng shui recommends, but I think it is healthier for the headboard to face magnetic North.

It depends on the environment of your house (e.g. Is the house located near hill/lake/large tree/junction etc) and the time of the year as well, every year the cycle of feng shui direction changes, so you might have to refer to charts or feng shui masters to check on the suitable direction for your bed on that certain year. On even more advanced feng shui levels, there are certain auspicious days to move your furniture, and some days are not suitable to do so, just as you noticed why the chinese choose certain days to get married. You have to plan carefully in detail for that.
Lighting and room flow affects your room chi level too. The brighter your room the more yang chi it has, but make sure its balanced with the yin level, too much yang chi will cause overactiveness and tired. Too much yin chi will cause one to get sick easily. Room flow refers to how you position furniture in your room, if you put position it where overall the room looks too open and wide, chi flows out easily, if it seems too crowded and narrow, chi will be stuck and wont be able to circulate around properly, causing bad chi to pile up easily, so its important to postion the flow just right.

well on the news I saw once by placing like a coin over the bed would fix it. Other than that you shouldn't have one facing that way

Actually, it should be based on which month you were born in. If you're born in the summer, then west, north west & north are suitable for you.
