Per other answers, Appealing to your parents is definitely sound advice. Opting out of the class next semester may be possible. My question is why they are insistant about it. You could just not practice or practice less but I wouldn't do that if your grade depends on it. From here to the fencepost, I play guitar and I was never made to do it. I love doing it, but there were times when it became an obsession and I had wrong or unrealistic motives for doing it and almost walked away from it. If you want to play guitar do it for the shear pleasure of doing it because good guitar players are a dime a dozen. It takes a whole lot more than that if you have any intention to pursue a career in music. Just don't be too shortsighted about it and remember what's important. This is advice for your parents too. Your grades are important. A good relationship with your parents is important. Playing guitar: not so important. You can appeal to your parents in the same way by reminding them of what's really important. Clarinet: not so important. If your parents are reasonable they should be able to see the truth in that, right? Best wishes!

I'm in band and I play clarinet too, but I love it. I'm in marching band and we don't hardly get anytime to just relax, so I know how you feel, but try discussing it with your parents like an adult. Sit them down and tell them that band isn't your thing, and that you just want to play guitar. If you do it right and you parents repect you enough then they'll let you quit band.

Tell them how you feel about it and that you want to be a guitarist instead. ><
Why exactly do they want you to stay in band? D:
Let them know that the clarinet is boring and playing the guitar is much funner. They're both music, one's funner and one's boring. It's that simple. XD

And I don't get parents... I don't get why my parents let me play the guitar but not the drums. -_-

I just quit orchestra class in favor of learning guitar and bass on my own, and it's worked out a lot better for me, because I don't need to be forced to practice. I actually enjoy it. Just do what you think is best for you, in spite of your parents' thoughts on the subject.

Be sincerely and sit down with them and explain that playing a flute don't roll with your personality and that you don't have any motivation to keep playing it. Explain how the time practicing the flute demoralize you, and take up to much of your spare time... Tell them you are afraid that keeping up with this activity, will make you "burned out"

Just be honest with them... Best of luck getting out off this!
