Call me naive, but I don't think it was just about the money, but instead about the years of physical abuse to his body. He was probably kicking back on the golf course and watching baseball games, wondering why he didn't get into one of those sports, dreading the thought of getting hit 50 times a game. In football, a serious injury is always around the corner, especially as players get older. He's probably close to being sick of it.
