The great thing about this is that it is deliberately being vague, so you think it is hard, beacuse you don't know what it's asking really, but thats great, because then you can interpret it and answer what you think is correct eg. language choices could mean, the author chose to use adjectives (imposing, firmly, tall) and rhymes (winking and blinking) or it could be useing a metaphor for something else, eg, the mansion being someone in authority for example! Not sure what you mean, but:
The author's words describe the mansion as a person.
S/he describes the mansion as imposing, & it's windows
'staring' down at the humble cottages below.

Definitely personification.
Personification - A figure of speech in which inanimate objects or abstractions are endowed with human qualities.
Also, there ARE metaphors. (winking, blinking, staring). Metaphors generally do not use the word 'like'. Similes do use the word 'like'.

yea the stood, wiking , blinking and staring are personification i think (where something is made to sound like a person) and i dunno, theres loads of adjectives i guess.
