Without hiring a car that is. A bus line or train that does not take me via paris to get there? I believe it is about 68 miles away the only train info I could get said it would take about 5 hrs, I am sure this is wrong. Any suggestions?

The nearest station to Pont Aven appears to be Quimperle, about 15 km from Pont Aven.
You can get a train from Brest to Quimper (journey time about 1h 10m) and change for a train to Quimperle (30 mins).

Sorry, can't help with the last 15 km but I would imagine there is a bus service from Quimperle to Pont Aven

Maybe this is a better train info site:

It does give a much shorter time, but that is from Brest town to near Pont Aven, not all the way.

Sorry, I do not have a link for a site for all public transport in France.
Remember that in France not all trains and buses run regularly through the day, some run just once or twice a day. So a change from train to bus might take hours.
