Here's what I know for a fact.....I want to go to Medical school.

Unfortunattley, some of the realities of med school is the fact that not everyone gets in...and things can go wrong (bad score on mcats..etc.)

I figured I'd choose Biology as my major next year (i'll be a freshman at the University of Illinois in Chicago). However, my dad told me that I should pick something else because there's not alot you can do with just a biology major (i'm a fun outgoing girl so no one can see my sitting in a lab doing research).

A girl I was talking to the other day also brought up a point: Medical Schools look alot at your GPA....she said biology is tough and takes a lot of studying...so I should consider choosing an "easy" major to have a high g.p.a (she gave me examples such as psychology, sociology...) She also advised that I should choose something I like rather then choose something that I think will just help me in med school because she said undergrad is to enjoy yourself.

Can someone tell me whyyyy so many people choose a Biology major if Medical schools tell us they like "diversity."

Would i be making a mistake by choosing sociology or something as a major?

I am aware that my pre-reqs for med. give me all the info i need to know for med school but for some reason I am convinced that I cant get into medical school without bio.

However, I want to enjoy my college life

Can someone help me out?!

The reason so many applicants have life science majors is that they think that's what is needed. It used to be that way until the 80's and then med schools started rethinking their admission policies. A study was done and it was discovered that patients didn't sue their doctors if they liked him/her and patients liked the doctors who talked with them versus the robots who were cold and aloof. So, the med schools put the word out to the undergrad advisors that they were interested in students with diverse backgounds, figuring that 'normal people' would make better doctors. Unfortunately, many of these advisors think they know best and still try to steer students into a life science major. But the trend is slowly changing. You can go here and see what the majors were for the 2006 matriculants: http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2006/mcatgpabymaj1.htm

To be honest, a psych degree is probably one of the easiest degrees to get. But a BS in psych doesn't get you a cup of coffee if you don't get into a med school and unless you like psych and would continue on it, well....

You will do better in your courses if you pursue something that interests you. There are plenty of music majors in med school now!

First of all, if you think that being a bio major will get you into med school and you think you can handle the work, go for it, However, you do not want to invest several years into a major and realize that you do not want it anymore.

I would speak to an advisor, but I would also take alot of different classes that will give you a backup in case you change your mind in the future.

hezbollah and each thing is each and every of a similar sh.it. sunni and shiite are 2 branches of Islam, like catholicism and protestant in Christianity. Now, tell me, what proportion muslims have died in gaza? lots greater then individuals and israelis. what proportion muslims died in iraq conflict? what proportion israelis and individuals died in that conflict? The checklist is going one. Crim liar, i could no longer agree greater.
