My husband and I would like to travel to Europe to sightsee. However, we can only go this winter (Nov-Dec). Ideally we'd like to go to Italy, France, etc, but is it too cold? What's a good place to go for first time visitors to Europe? We're thinking about Greece/Turkey also. What about Spain/Portugal?

In the North of France, including Paris, it can be cold, round freezing, but it can be a little warmer too.
The mountains in France, Italy, Spain and even the south of Spain get snow each winter, but November is early for that.
The towns in South of France and all other countries will be good places to visit.
Beaches will be cold, unless there is a warm spell, but sight seeing is well possible.

If you can, keep your travel schedule open and play it by ear, so you can go where the weather suits you best.

If you want to go skiing and visit a beautiful country full of history, definitely go to Italy. It is cold (after all people will be skiing:) but down south it isn`t.
If you want to do just sightseeing, I think you`d love Spain and Portugal. There, it`s not so cold, the people are friendly, loads of things to see (also interesting stuff about how Columbus discovered America,...), the food is excellent...

Hope you have a wonderful time in Europe :)

Yes go south! I went to Paris in early Feb...ok it was not overly cold then to be honest, but I did not see the sun an awful lot in my time there.

I went to Spain ( just south of Barcelona) over Christmas one year...to espcape the UK winter ( when I was living there)...I saw the sun more than in the UK thats for sure, but it was still quite nippy....it didn't rain or anything, but we had a few overcast days....but if you dont mind that, try Spain or Portugal.
I also really like Croatia....its really lovely, cheap and I was really pleasantly surprised with it overall...Dubronvnik and Split on the coast would be great, but there are also lots of islands you can go to as well.
