Why do people give other peoples answers a thumbs down when it's a really well thought out and legitimate answer? Take for example, this one guy asked for familiar classical pieces. I gave him a fairly long list of all the familiar and popular classical pieces I knew. And I got 2 thumbs down for it. What the hell? People need to be more respectful here.
I mean, I can understand if you gave someone a thumbs down for an answer you didn't agree with, but listing popular classical pieces is not a matter of opinion. Just saying.
Anyone agree with me?

look, you cannot prevent from giving thumbs down by some stupid morons that are always around.

2 days ago someone was asking for just 3 classical favorites. i couldn't recognise any bad answer, but in the end every answer had 3 or 4 thumbs down. this is done by some idiots going through an entire answers list and clicking thumbs down for every answer. i've seen this already several times but it doesn't bother me anymore, it's nothing personal but simply a bad joke.

p.s.
lmao - the paranoid guy was here again

The problem is, I think, that you can only guess at what people really want in an answer. Sometimes, frankly, it's hard to tell. You can write an intelligent, well-thought-out response, but there's no guarantee anyone will acknowledge or appreciate it (or give it a "thumbs-up").

I offended someone a few days ago by giving what I thought was a humorous answer to a rather silly-sounding question. But I forgot that I knew nothing about the person to whom I was responding. I knew nothing about his sense of humor (which is obviously different from mine). I wouldn't be surprised if he gives a thumbs-down to every answer of mine from now on. Oh, well...

That's the risk we take when we visit here, I suppose. The best we can do is try to be as courteous and judicious as possible, even when awarding thumbs up or down... and hope that others will do the same.

I could not agree more. I think the most frustrating part of it is in not knowing *why* the thumbs down is there, staring you in the face, and not telling you who gave it or why ....sometimes I think they come from pranksters who hit and run since they need not identify themselves, or even give you an explanation, much less a good one ....

It reminds me of a story about Glenn Gould who was objecting to being given a traffic ticket for running through a red light ...by saying that they had not given him any credit for all the green lights he had stopped for.

Signals mean different things to different people. What is serious to one person is a complete lark to another. So, don't fret yourself none, especially since you really do not know just why the thumbs down .....or for that matter the thumbs up! .......was given. It might be that the thumbs ups are just as carelessly given. Hey there !!!!

Why are you asking this in Music -> Classical? I give this question a thumbs down for wrong spot hehe...

Yes, I hate it.. But what are you going to do, some people do it so that they get the "Best Answer" But I don't give a hoot about how many points I aculmulate on Yahoo! Answeres (answering a question gets me 2 right?-- I'm going for level 3!)

I am apologizing publicly because I believe that I may have thumbs down that answer .... not because of the content but because of the quantity of pieces to choose from. I thought you put in too many choices and it would be an overwhelming amount to start on.

Chelsea, frequently I find your answer informative and more than valid. Your opinion and thoughts are important to this forum and you do contribute a great deal and a fresh perspective that we old guys can and do learn from.

Thank You

I believe the reason you got thumbed down is that your answer about the graduation piece being Pachelbel's canon was most likely incorrect. The standard music played at most graduations is called "Pomp and Circumstance" and it was composed by Edward Elgar.

i agree with you. i think it's because people nowadays can't accept the truth. I mean they're the ones putting their questions up for everyone to see, so they should be aware that there are some things they'll like to hear, and somethings they don't

Why the hell do people take yahoo answers seriously? Who the hell cares if you get the thumbs up or thumbs down?

I've got a guy who follows me around just to give me thumbs down on my answers -- whether they are good or not.

I don't let it bother me. If that's his joy in life, then I don't have the heart to call him on it, poor dumb fellah.
